Design and Preliminary Experiment of W-Band Broadband TE02 Mode Gyro-TWT

The gyrotron travelling wave tube (gyro-TWT) is an ideal high-power, broadband vacuum electron amplifier in millimeter and sub-millimeter bands. It can be applied as the source of imaging radar to improve resolution operating range. To satisfy requirements W-band high-resolution radar, design experimentation TE02 mode gyro-TWT were carried out. In this paper, designs key components are introduced, including interaction area, optical system, transmission system. experimental results show that when duty ratio 1%, output power above 60 kW with a bandwidth 8 GHz, saturated gain 32 dB. addition, parasitic oscillations observed experiment, which limited increase caused measured gains much lower than simulation results. For phenomenon, reasons suppression methods under study.
